Mirrolure Catch 2000 Sometimes you just have to put the lure in a fishes face and keep it there to get a strike. This mid-water level is where suspending lures come into their own. I’ve fished many suspending plugs, but on some of the more shallow waters they have a tendency to go too deep and snag on the bottom. The answer came when Mirrolure introduced their new Catch 2000 series of suspending twitch baits.
Many anglers have sworn by Mirrolure twitch baits for decades. They are tough,
flashy and have an action that few fish can resist. They are most commonly put
into two categories, floating and sinking. The floaters included the classic 7M
series and their smaller 38M. The sinkers had the same body shape as the
floaters in the 52M, 52MR, TT and 28M models, they just went much deeper. So you have two spectrums of the water column covered, the near surface, and the bottom, but what about that mid level? Suspending plugs have grown in popularity due to their ability to catch fish, sometimes when nothing else would. Most suspending plugs though have the common crank bait diving lip to get them down to a certain depth where they then will suspend when stopped. The Catch 2000 is designed to sink to 10-12 inches and stay there. This gives the plug a great advantage on the shallower flats and oyster bars that many anglers find in Florida. The Catch 2000 comes in two models, the original Catch 2000, and its smaller sibling the Catch 2000Jr. The original size is 3 ½ inches long and weighs in at ½ ounce. The Jr. is 3 inches long and 3/8 of an ounce. Both come in a wide range of colors but include long time favorites such as silver/black back, silver/green back, chartreuse, and white/red head. I’ve been really surprised by the number of species that I’ve caught on this plug, from mangrove snapper and hard head catfish as incidental catches, to snook, trout, and redfish. The action on this plug really is irresistible to most fish as even the slightest twitch gives the plug an underwater side-to-side darting movement. The real wonder of this plug though is that you can stop it at any time and it will hover right where it is, 10-12 inches under the surface. I’ve had many strikes come after a short pause just as I make another twitch. The weight is excellent and allows very long casts making this a good searching lure.
Mirrolure created a true winning lure when they designed the Catch 2000 series
of twitch baits. I'm sure they will continue to attract many fish and fishermen
to their lures for decades to come. More information can be found at: |
